Dr. Alya A. Arabi is an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAEU (2020-To Present). She earned her PhD in Chemistry from Dalhousie University, Canada, in 2012, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Mount Saint Vincent University/Dalhousie University, Canada, in 2008. During 2012-2013, Dr. Arabi held Adjunct Faculty positions at MSVU, Canada and ADU, UAE. She was an Assistant Professor (2014-2018) and Associate Professor (2018-2020) at the College of Natural and Health Sciences, Zayed University, UAE. She was Honorary Lecturer at University College London, UK (2017-2021), and Associate Member at the University of Lethbridge, Canada (2016-2020), and a Young Affiliate of The World Academy of Sciences (2017-2021). Dr. Arabi received prestigious awards, including the Killam Predoctoral Scholarship, Senate Medal for “Highest Aggregate” at MSVU, 2nd Khalifa Fund Techo-preneur Award, Provost Research Award at ZU, and Best Teacher for 2021-2022 at CMHS, UAEU. She uses computational tools to study biochemical systems for medicinal applications, focusing on the impact of electric fields and intercalators on DNA mutations, modulators of DNA remodelers, and bioisosterism in drug design. She has publications in highly-ranked international journals and USPTO patents.
